Short answer
A bar bending schedule lists each bar with its diameter, number and cutting length, then works out total length and weight using d² ÷ 162 kg per metre. Download the sheet below; weights and the steel summary are already in formulas.

How to fill it
- One row per bar mark: member, bar mark, diameter, number of members, bars in each member and cutting length.
- Total length, weight per metre and weight work themselves out.
- The steel summary at the bottom adds up each diameter, in kg and in tonnes.
Questions
What is a bar bending schedule?
A list of every reinforcement bar in a member: its mark, diameter, how many there are, the cutting length, and the total weight. It is used to cut and bend steel and to bill it by weight.
How is the weight of a bar worked out?
Weight in kg per metre is the diameter in mm squared divided by 162. A 12 mm bar weighs 0.889 kg per metre. The sheet multiplies this by the total length.
Does the sheet work out the cutting length?
No. Cutting length depends on the shape, bend deductions, hooks and laps on your drawing, so type it in. Everything after it is worked out.
What does the steel summary show?
Total length and weight for each diameter from 8 mm to 32 mm, and the total in kg and tonnes, ready for ordering steel or billing it.
